چکیده

The presence of defects in diamond induces one-phonon infrared absorption which is not allowed in the perfect crystal due to symmetry. Concomitantly the thermal conductivity is reduced by additional phonon-defect scattering. For single crystal diamonds irradiated with fast neutrons, we find a correlation between the one-phonon absorption and the room-temperature thermal conductivity valid over t.hree orders of magnitude in defect concentration. This relation holds for both unannealed and annealed crystals for which the detailed configuration of defects is different, as well as for a synthetic diamond tilm containing a similar type of disorder. Infrared absorption can thus be used to determine the thermal conductivity of diamonds containing vacancy-related defect centers.

An Investigation on Stability, Electrical and Thermal Characteristics of Transformer Insulting Oil Nanofluids

Transformer insulating oil nanofluid is made to improve dielectric and thermal properties of the oil by employing nanoparticles with proper properties. In the current work, nanofluids based on transformer mineral oil were prepared by three procedures using diamond nanoparticles with high thermal conductivity, as well as high dielectric properties. It was tried to consider the impacts of surfact...

Conference Report: WORKSHOP ON CHARACTERIZING DIAMOND FILMS II Gaithersburg, MD February 24–25, 1993

The second in a series of workshops was held at NIST on February 24-25, 1993 to discuss in depth specific topics deemed important to the characterization of diamond films made by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and to address the need for standards in diamond technology. The topics chosen for this workshop were based on feedback from the attenders of the first workshop [1]. The audience targete...

A report on the latest trends in nanofluid research

The term Nanofluids was first coined by Sir Stephen Choi in 1995 at Argonne National Laboratory ,U.S.A .Since the discovery, nanofluid have been explored as heat transfer fluids. Nanofluids increased the thermal conductivity of existing coolants (Water, Ethylene glycol) by a magnitude of hundred times which made them attractive for miniaturization of electronic devices .From 1995 till 2008 nano...

Polar effects on the thermal conductivity of cubic boron nitride under pressure.

We report the lattice thermal conductivity (κ) of cubic boron nitride (c-BN) under pressure calculated using density functional theory. Pressure was used to manipulate the c-BN phonon dispersion and study its effect on thermal conductivity. These results were compared to c-BN's mass-equivalent, nonpolar counterpart, diamond, in order to isolate the effect of polar bonds on thermal conductivity....
